Sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein Commits Suicide at Manhattan Jail (Photos)

Jeffrey Epstein, the US financier facing federal sex trafficking charges, committed suicide on Friday night in his lower Manhattan jail cell, American media outlets reported on Saturday.

He hanged himself, and his body was found on Saturday morning, The New York Times and other media said.

Epstein ‘Age 66’, had already been found in a cell in late July with marks on his neck after an apparent suicide attempt.

Epstein, who was arrested on July 6, had pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking involving dozens of underage girls as young as 14, from at least 2002 to 2005.

The charges were announced more than a decade after Epstein pleaded guilty to state prostitution charges in Florida.

He was confined in the Metropolitan Correctional Centre in Manhattan while he appealed a district judge’s refusal to let him live under 24-hour guard in his home on the Upper East Side.

The financier with opulent homes, a private jet and access to elite circles, had been dogged for decades by accusations that he had paid dozens of girls for sexual acts in Florida.

The one-time friend of Bill Clinton and Donald Trump faced a maximum sentence of 45 years in prison.
